New Dental College Inaugurated in Pudukkottai on July 15

Chennai: A new milestone in dental education was achieved as a state-of-the-art dental college and hospital was inaugurated in Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. The construction, which commenced on October 21, 2021, concluded on July 15, 2023, marking the inauguration of the college.

The ambitious project, costing Rs 63 crores, was closely monitored by Health Minister Ma Subramanian, who inspected the site and expressed satisfaction with the progress. The college has become the third government dental college in Tamil Nadu, alongside the existing ones in Chennai and Chidambaram.

According to official reports, the state government had sought accreditation and seat allotment from the Dental Council of India for the new college. The application was approved on May 16, 2023, paving the way for 50 BDS seats to be allocated to Tamil Nadu.

To ensure the smooth functioning of the college, a robust faculty consisting of 6 professors, 11 associate professors, and 30 assistant professors was appointed. Additionally, 102 non-teaching staff members are supporting the educational activities. The Tamil Nadu Medical Service Corporation (TNMSC) played a crucial role in providing the necessary equipment, infrastructure, and resources, including tables, chairs, and books.

The admission process for BDS seats at the new dental college began this year, offering aspiring dental students an opportunity to receive high-quality education in a state-of-the-art facility.

The inaugural ceremony, held on July 15, 2023, was graced by the esteemed presence of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. The event marked a significant milestone in dental education in the region, further enhancing access to quality dental care and education.

The admission process for the 50 seats at AIIMS Madurai also continued as planned, ensuring a seamless educational journey for medical students.

The launch of the new dental college in Pudukkottai represents a promising step towards expanding dental education and access to oral healthcare services in Tamil Nadu. The government's commitment to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure and providing quality education is commendable, and we anticipate the positive impact this new institution will have on the dental landscape of the state.
